The "round dot" pattern does hold liquids, but the product would benefit from having a lip around the edge of the mat to ensure that liquid stayed in the circular wells.
Since the manufacturing process is undoubtedly designed to create giant sheets of the vinyl, and then cut those sheets down to whatever form factors are required for each vehicle in the lineup, it's simply not possible to have such a lip on an individual mat, as could be done via a manufacturing process designed around individual molds.
The 4 mats (driver, front passenger, second row, and cargo area) all look good. The front passenger mat was not cut perfectly for a RAV4, needing a slight trim where the passenger's right foot would rest. But in fact, I left it alone, since it protects the plastic column, and molded well to that surface after a few days.
Overall, a good product, slightly limited by the manufacturing process.
