(More customer reviews)You already know what a K&N filter is and does, so we'll skip that. The best application of this replacement filter is to narrow the width of your Harley or clone if you are using a Super-G carb. Right now, the filter housing sticks out a good ways, and can cramp your leg. Use this element, and you reduce the projection by almost 3/4" (and that makes a significant difference). The dyno shows no significant difference in horesepower.
First, remove the fiber gasket/block between the carb and the manifold. It is not needed for sealing (there is also a rubber o-ring) and has no measurable effect on carb heat under normal conditions (parades? I dunno). Then in the inner filter housing, shorten the 3 stand-off stud bosses about 3/8" . There is plenty of meat there, and the holes are already drilled deep enough. Just run a tap into the existing threads and tap to the bottom. Then grind off the bosses about 3/8" to match the spec height of this filter element.
Voila - your filter housing works as well as before, but sticks out a lot less.
